Our Borough is named for Robert Morris who is famous as the “Financier of the American Revolution”. Becoming a successful merchant after coming from England in his teens, by 1775 Morris was the wealthiest man in the Thirteen Colonies.
After the start of the American Revolution, Morris used both his personal wealth and business reputation to fund the Continental Army, Marines, Navy, and purchase essential military supplies. In 1781 the Continental Congress named Morris the Superintendent of Finance in order to resolve and stabilize the country’s finances. Morris then formed the Bank of North America, thus enabling the United States to pay the overdue Continental Army salaries.
In 1787 Morris was selected one of the delegates to the Philadelphia Convention, from where the Constitution and Bill of Rights was written and adopted. A fact unknown to most, is that our Robert Morris (with Connecticut’s Roger Sherman) were the only two delegates to sign all three of America’s founding documents: the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the Constitution of the United States.
In his ‘honour’ the MBA maintains his statue at the Robert Morris Plaza and provides the seasonal decorations and maintenance. We also host a very popular annual car show; participate in Morrisville’s Memorial Day Parade, and other local events. The MBA also offers a scholarship to a graduating Morrisville High School senior majoring in a business course of study.
MBA members are invited to post information about their business on our Facebook page which is open for public viewing. Our website provides links to our member’s website, where we hope you will shop. MBA membership is open to any business/business owner in the 19067 area.
